The Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk (or GT Hawk) was a grand touring coupe sold by Studebaker motors between 1962 and 1964.
The top of the Studebaker line, it was the final development of the Hawk series that began with the Golden Hawk in 1956.
Featuring a 289ci (4.
7L) R1 V8 engine teamed with a 3 speed Manual transmission.
This car was ordered with upgraded Jet Thrust R-series V-8 engine that was designed for the Avanti and was naturally aspirated.
Handling and braking improvements were ordered a-la-carte to handle the enhanced horsepower which include front disc brakes, heavy-duty springs, and front and rear anti-roll barsAfter WWII, America was hungry for new cars that production was halted by the War.
The Big 3, as well as the remaining Independent Car makers were fiercely competing for sales.
Studebaker had always been forward thinking and innovative by the late 50s, sales of all Studebaker lines were failing.
Trying to bolster sales, especially competing with the Muscle-Pony Cars of GM, Ford & Chrysler, Studebaker turned to trusted designers Raymond Lowry (Avanti) and Brooks Stevens Gran Turismo.
In addition to the styling changes, Studebaker turned to Andy Granatelli who took both Avanti and Gran Turismos to Bonneville and set hundreds of speed records.
Unfortunately, those efforts were not enough! Studebaker closed its doors on production 20 December 1963.
The Gran Turismo was the extension of the Hawk family of cars.
Stevens design was very European influenced.
This car has been ground up restored with original color and trim.
The car came stock with the optional 225 HP 289 4 barrel engine tied to a 3 speed manual transmission with overdrive.
With this setup, this car is a sound performer and gets good gas mileage with 3 gear overdrive.
All gauges work including the clock, but its lazy.
It has its original radio that works well.
AC blows cold! This car comes with manuals.
This Gran Turismo also has period tires and rims in addition to the new tires and rims now on the car.
The car has an electric fuel pump that primes the car for quick and easy start.
This is a rust free car!.
