DOT Safety Manager

A leading provider of industrial services is currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Area Safety Manager to join our team. Our company specializes in steel mill services, metal recovery, slag handling, and environmental solutions. This position will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the safety of our employees, customers, and subcontractors in a designated area, while continuously improving our safety culture and performance.

Responsibilities:

Develop, implement, and maintain DOT safety programs, policies, and procedures that comply with federal, state, and local regulations and conform to industry best practices.

Conduct regular audits and inspections of fleet operations, driver qualification files, hours of service records, and vehicle maintenance records to identify potential issues and ensure compliance with DOT regulations.

Train and mentor employees, supervisors, and managers on DOT-related topics, including driver qualification, hours of service, vehicle inspection, and hazardous materials handling.

Collaborate with site leadership to establish DOT safety goals, objectives, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the area, and monitor progress towards their achievement.

Investigate DOT-related incidents and near misses, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of DOT safety activities, incident reports, training, and certifications, ensuring timely reporting to regulatory agencies as required.

Promote a strong safety culture through active engagement and communication with employees, encouraging safe behaviors, and recognizing achievements in safety performance.

Liaise with regulatory agencies, industry groups, and other stakeholders on DOT safety-related issues, staying current on relevant regulations, standards, and best practices.

Participate in the development and execution of emergency response plans, drills, and exercises.

Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall safety and success of the company.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Safety, Transportation, or a related field; professional certifications such as CSP, CDS, or CDL are preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in DOT safety management within the transportation, industrial services, or construction industries.

Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, including FMCSA and PHMSA requirements.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively engage with employees at all levels of the organization.

Proven ability to develop, implement, and maintain effective DOT safety programs and drive continuous improvement in safety performance.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with DOT safety management software systems.

Ability to travel as needed to support multiple sites within the designated area.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
