Job Description:
This is a great opportunity for an experienced plant manager to manage a best in class environmental infrastructure project.
The Plant Manager will have technical, operational and P&L responsibility for the plant.
You will be accountable for all aspects of the plant's operations including maintenance, process engineering and optimization.
This is a highly visible role managing daily operation of the Anaerobic Digestion, Composting and Cogeneration/Microgrid Facilities on-site, including two 1.
1 Mw combined heat and power (CHP) engines fueled by AD biogas and a 1 Mw rooftop solar array.
Position involves close interaction with operations staff along with vendors and subcontractors.
The plant manager will host site visits by the general public and customers while also insuring safe, efficient plant operations, maintenance, reporting, compliance and P&L responsibility.
You will have lead responsibility in ensuring the site activities comply with all safety, health, and environmental permits, regulations and conditions, maintaining a positive safety culture, while also complying with company policies & procedures and contractual performance requirements.
Compliance forms a cornerstone of the role as we are in a highly regulated industry, so maintaining a positive relationship with regulatory personnel is paramount.
Key Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Operations:
Manage operational staff and contract labor resources.
Recommend or initiate personnel actions, such as hires, promotions, career development/progression, improvements, and terminations.
Addressing personnel issues consistent with company policies and procedures.
Manage feedstock materials to minimize odors and to maintain and optimize feedstock mix to drive maximum biogas yield and compost quality Ensure all materials delivered to or dispatched from the site are fit for purpose and of expected quality standards.
Submit recommended alterations of operations and maintenance procedures with justification to management for approval.
Technical/Maintenance Lead the technical maintenance of the facilities to optimize process equipment performance, uptime, and biogas and electrical energy production with technical support from the AD technology vendor.
Dealing quickly and efficiently with site, mechanical, supply and offtake issues.
Promptly address site AD mechanical issues, Rolling Stock, feedstock management, and digestate offtake issues.
Inform management of insights and means to improve plant performance through feedstock procurement.
Commercial, P/L, and Project Reporting:
Fully responsible for the Profit and Loss of the Facility Prepare operations and maintenance budgets, targets and forecasts for management review and approval, using head office support to ensure transparency.
Provide regular feedback on key issues and profit improvement initiatives.
Work directly with corporate office accounting department on payroll, HR and financial reporting.
Submit regular reports to management on biogas production, electrical production, tons of feedstock received and digestate delivered.
Analyze and report feedstock characteristics including trends Report digester health including trends Ensuring regulatory compliance and that all internal and external audits are carried out smoothly, are documented and filed for future retrieval.
Compliance forms a cornerstone of the role as we are in a highly regulated industry.
Managing the commercial element of the business, ensuring all activities are closely analyzed, recorded and reported by the built-in AD technology reporting systems, clearly justifying any decision made.
Report on hazardous materials delivered and waste sent out consistent with Permit to Operate.
Regulatory and Safety:
Promote safe work practices and follow OSHA and company guidelines.
Assure that safety training for all personnel is conducted in a timely manner and remains current Maintain positive relations with staff, local community, suppliers, and external stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
Ensure regulatory compliance with permits o Ensure all internal and external audits are carried out in a timely manner and are documented and filed for future retrieval.
Sets high standard for integrity, ethics and compliance Desired Candidate:
We are seeking a talented and hands on operational leader who has an aptitude for managing and maintaining an innovative facility.
Well-versed in facility operations and supervision experience.
Experience managing anaerobic digestion, composting, cogeneration &/or wastewater treatment plant facilities is preferred.
A will do attitude, proactive mind-set and excellent interpersonal skills with good management expertise are desirable.
The plant facilities operate on a continuous 24/7/365 basis.
Maintaining continuous operation by responding to critical operational issues on an on-call basis is required.
Weekly hours & schedule to be determined.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Electrical, chemical or mechanical engineering degree is preferred.
Minimum of three years plant supervisor or manager experience at anaerobic digestion, composting, cogeneration &/or wastewater treatment facilities.
Strong aptitude for work scheduling and for forward planning.
Strong appreciation of the need for safe working practices.
Strong aptitude for problem solving back to root cause and ability to implement corrective measures where required.
Enthusiastic and flexible team player with high expectation of self and others able to lead by example.
Proven track record of delivering business results required Champions a clear & respectful channel of communication with all constituents required.
Excellent analytical skills and business acumen required Excellent coaching skills and the ability to develop and train operations staff.
Self-starter - able to work under pressure on own initiative and confident to make decisions and improvements.
Excellent written and verbal communications - Managing relationships with site-based operators, suppliers, local stakeholders, regulators and external contractors and stakeholders.
Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Must have basic computer skills and have functional ability in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
Ability to be flexible to changing work schedules for outages and other shift coverage needs.
English & Spanish language skills a plus.
CAISO grid interconnection and SCE PPA experience a plus.
Working Conditions The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions.
The noise level in the work environment can be loud at times.
Position requires working on feet extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules.
This job requires the ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, climb vertical access ladders and stairwells.
Personal protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.
g.
hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, personal gas monitor, chemical protection (goggles, face shield, chemical resistant suit and/or apron), and high voltage protective equipment, etc.
